Objective
During this lab, you will tour the Microsoft® Office 365™ administration and user portal. Throughout the lab, you will review areas of the user interface and perform tasks that highlight administration features of Office 365. You are encouraged to explore all areas of the portal covered and not covered in the lab to become familiar with Office 365.

This lab requires that you already have an Office 365 tenant, which must be an E3 or above Enterprise license tenant. If you do not have an Office 365 tenant, you can sign up for a new tenant 30-day trial at https://products.office.com/en-us/business/office-365-enterprise-e5-business-software What You Will Learn
After completing the exercises, you will be familiar with the Office 365 Administration Portal and have experience using several of the administration features. You will know the steps required to get your team set up and working in Office 365.

Exercise 1: Navigating the Office 365 Administration Portal
In this exercise, you will utilize the Office 365 Administration Portal features to set up and manage users, manage the Office 365 workloads, and review the report and support features in the portal.
Scenario: As the administrator for your company, you need to become familiar with the various aspects of the Office 365 Administration Portal that are available to you. You have been tasked with setting an initial pilot for Office 365 for your team.
You must already have an Office 365 E3 or E5 tenant in order to complete this lab. It is recommended to use a new trial tenant to ensure your production tenant is not impacted. Your tenant administrator must be mail enabled for this lab.

You can sign into the CLIENT01 machine with the following password: Pa$$w0rd - Complete the Office 365 trial registrationOn the Office 365 Enterprise page, click Free trial and then complete the questionnaire. You should write down your tenant administrator username and password because it will be used throughout the lab.
- Sign in to new Office 365 trial tenantOnce you have signed up for a tenant, sign in to your tenant and verify that it has finished provisioning.
- Open Internet ExplorerOn CLIENT01, open Internet Explorer. If necessary, sign into CLIENT01 as Admin with a password of Pa$$w0rd
- Browse to portal.microsoftonline.comIn the address bar, type https://portal.microsoftonline.com and then press Enter.
- Enter your new tenant user accountOn the Office 365 page, under the Sign in with your work or school account box, type your tenant administrator user account.
- Enter your tenant passwordIn the Password box, type your password, select the Keep me signed in check box, and then click Sign in.
- Click the Admin appAfter you sign in to the Office 365 portal, you are connected to the Home page. Click the Admin app.When you click the Admin tile you may be requested to update your admin contact info. Click Cancel.You should see the Office 365 admin center dashboard view. This view presents you with a service overview layout that allows you to quickly assess service health and view any alerts registered in the system.
Review the service overview areas on the dashboard page. The dashboard provides notifications of alerts and service health as well as Admin shortcuts, resources, and community forum links. - Click Service HealthIn the navigation menu on the left, click Health (heartbeat symbol) and then click Service Health.
- Click a serviceReview the current status. In the Services column, notice any services that may report degraded and click them to view the Current Status. Also, click on healthy services. Click View history for any or all of these as well to look at recent reports. Click View current to return to the current status list.
- Click Message centerIn the navigation menu, under Health, click Message center. Review the information messages and the Plan for Change messages
- Click Recently addedUnder Health, Click Recently added to review recent updates to the service.
- Click ReportsIn the navigation menu, click Reports (graph symbol) and then click the links for Usage and Security & compliance and review the information.
- Click UsersIn the navigation menu, click Users and then click Active users.
- Click + Add a userClick + Add a user.
- Type in First nameIn the First name box, type in Eric.If you already have a user named Eric Gilmore, create a different user.
- Type in Last nameIn the Last name box, type Gilmore. Notice the Display name is auto filled.
- Type in User nameIn the User name box, type EricG.
- Click AddNotice the password setting and the license assignment. Click Password to see the options. Leave the default selections. Click Add.The availability of services and features in Microsoft Office 365 varies by country or region. A service, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), might be available in one country or region but not available in another. Features within a service can be restricted for legal reasons in certain countries or regions.
User features can be enabled or disabled with the user’s license. Be aware that the license in its entirety is consumed when assigned regardless of which features are enabled or disabled. For example, just assigning the user Exchange Online does not make a Skype for Business Online license available for another user. - Click Send email and closeOn the results page, review the information and take note of the password, and then click Send email and close.
- Click GroupsIn the navigation menu, click Groups and then click Groups.Security groups can be used to easily grant access to SharePoint sites.
- Click + Add a groupOn the toolbar, click + Add a group.
- Create Site Admins groupIn the Name box, type Site Admins.
- Press Tab keyPress the Tab key or click into the Group Id box. Notice the field is auto filled with siteadmins.
- Click Select ownerClick + Select owner.
- Select Eric GilmoreIn the Users list, click Eric Gilmore.
- Click CloseClick Close.
- Click Admin centers and then click ExchangeIn the navigation menu, click Admin centers and then click Exchange. The Exchange admin center opens in a new tab.
- Click mail flowIn the Exchange admin center, in the feature pane, click mail flow.
- Apply disclaimersOn the rules tab, click New +, and then click Apply disclaimers.If necessary, select your language and time zone, and then click Save.
- Type a name for the disclaimerIn the new rule window, in the Name box, type Append a disclaimer to the message.
- Select rule criteriaUnder Apply this rule if, click the Select one menu, and then click The sender is.
- Add Eric Gilmore as a memberIn the Select Members window, click Eric Gilmore, click add, and then click ok.
- Click Enter textUnder Do the following, next to Append this disclaimer, click Enter text.
- Specify disclaimer textIn the specify disclaimer text box, type Company disclaimer can go here and then click OK.
- Click Select oneNext to fall back to action, click Select one.
- Specify fallback actionClick the specify fallback action menu, click Ignore, and then click OK.

- Click SharePointIn the Office 365 Admin center, under Admin centers, click SharePoint.

- Click SettingsIn the Office 365 Admin center, in the navigation menu, click Settings.
- Click Services and add-ins.Under Settings, click Services and add-ins. Notice all the options here, including the ability to manage basic components of Skype for Business or Sites.
- Click Microsoft Azure Information ProtectionClick Microsoft Azure Information Protection. Read the information and then click Close.Microsoft Azure Information Protection enables the ability to encrypt and assign usage restrictions to content for organizations that subscribe to Microsoft online services. By implementing a cloud-based rights management service, Information Protection provides an alternative for organizations seeking information protection capabilities within Microsoft Office 365. - Click Security & privacyIn the Office 365 Admin center, under Settings, click Security & privacy.
- View the Password policyNotice the default Password policy and the ability to Edit the policy. Click Edit and view the options. Click Close.
- Read the password reset section.Read the information for self-service password reset. This feature requires an Azure subscription.
Exercise 2: Managing Office 365 with Windows PowerShell
In this exercise, you will explore some basic Office 365 configuration tasks using the Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell™.

The Type Text feature is located to the left of the Done button in the task view screen. To use it, make sure the Windows PowerShell window is in the foreground, then click the icon. Review the text, and then press Enter to run the command. - Enter credentialsIn the Enter Credentials dialog box, type your Office 365 administrator user name and password.
- Review the Module MS OnlineIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:

Review the available commands for the Microsoft Online Services Module for Windows PowerShell. - Review the MSOL Company InformationIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-MsolCompanyInformation
This command retrieves all company information in summary. Note the self-service password reset feature. - Review the MSOL UsersIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-MsolUser
Notice the new user you created earlier and the license assignment. - Review the MSOL AccountsIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-MsolAccountSku | FL
Note the available license AccountSkuId information for your domain. - Create New MSOL UserIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:

Note the Company Administrator role Object ID. - Review Role MembersIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:

Review the role members.
Note that there is a space before the dash in " -RoleObjectID" - Review MSOL SubscriptionIn Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-MsolSubscription | FL
Review the command output and, in the output, the NextLifecycleDate value which represents the subscription expiration date. - Close Windows AA Directory ModuleClose the Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell.
Exercise 3: Importing multiple users using Bulk add
In this exercise, you will learn how to import and license a larger number of users to your Office 365 tenant.
- Browse to Active usersIn the Office 365 Admin center, in the navigation menu, click Users and then click Active users.
- Click More, then Import Multiple usersIn Active users, on the toolbar, click More, then click + Import multiple users.
- Click Download a CSV file with headers\sampleOn the Import multiple users page, click Download a CSV file with headers and sample user information.
- Click OpenIn the notification banner, click Open.
- Click NotepadIn the How do you want to open this type of file dialog box, click Notepad.
If you’ve opened the file in Excel, close Excel and open the file using Notepad. - Review the formatReview the format of the comma separated value sample document. The sample file is an example of a correctly formatted CSV file. It is important that you do not add or change any of the column headings or else Office 365 might not be able to create the users. The User Name and Display Name are the only required fields.
- Close the Sample CSV fileClose the sample CSV file.
- Click Download a CSV file headers only.On the select a csv file page, click Download a CSV file with headers only.
- Click Open or SaveIn the notification banner, click Open.
If the file opens in Excel, close Excel and then open the file using Notepad. You may need to save the file in order to open it using Notepad. - Add users to the CSV fileUnder the list of headings, type the information provided in the Knowledge feature. Click the Knowledge [Bulb in Head] icon. Be sure to use your tenant domain name.Make sure the file:
Uses commas as delimiters between the columns.

- Click NextWhen the file has been verified, you will see a green check mark and then click Next.
If you do not see a green check mark, review the list of issues and correct the errors in the file. In some cases, you may not see any errors listed yet the file will not verify. In this case, you may need to ensure you have the correct number of comma separators for each of the required columns. - Verify Sign-in allowed is selectedVerify that Sign-in allowed is selected.
- Set locationSet the location to United States.
- Assign licenses and then click NextAssign licenses to the new users by clicking the On/Off toggle switch next to the license you wish to assign. When you are finished assigning licenses, click Next.
You will receive an error if there are not enough licenses to assign. - Click Send and closeOn the View your results page, click Send and close. An email with details about the new accounts will be sent to the tenant admin by default. This address could be changed as needed.
- Review new usersIn the Active users section, notice the new users that have been created.
- Browse to MailIn the top left navigation, click the app launcher and then click Mail.
If necessary, set your language and time zone. - Click on the email from MSOL Services TeamIn the messages list, click the most recent email from Microsoft Online Services Team.
- Review the emailIn the results pane, review the email that contains the new user account information and temporary passwords. You should see the new user account information and temporary passwords for "Eric Gilmore." Note: You may have to wait 3-4 minutes for the email with information for the three new accounts to arrive. If the email does not arrive in that time period, you may click Done to finish the lab.
